The founder
I built the tool I spent 20 years wishing for.
I'm Janet Howard — a working photographer for two decades, and a software engineer before that. Studio Lifesaver is the system I run my own business on. Here's how it came to be.
01 Twenty years behind the lens
I've shot the weddings. I've sold the packages. I've chased the invoices.
For twenty years, photography has been my full-time living — not a side hustle, not a phase. I built a six-figure studio shooting the work most of you shoot: weddings, newborns, and the families I've photographed through engagement, marriage, first babies, and every season since.
Along the way I was lucky enough to make pictures of Cardi B, Idris Elba, Quavo, Tyrese Gibson, Rick Ross, and Keshia Knight-Pulliam, and to see my work published in Vogue, Vanity Fair, Ebony, BuzzFeed, and CNN. I shot campaigns for Mercedes-Benz, Four Seasons, the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, Pattern Beauty, Lids, and Shein.
I tell you that not to brag, but so you know one thing: I have lived every part of this industry that you're living right now. I even wrote a book about the business of all this — The Photographer's Business Guide, available now on Amazon.
02 Before the camera, there was the code
Most software founders have never run your business. I've also built theirs.
Here's the part that makes Studio Lifesaver different from everything else you've tried. Before I was ever a photographer, I was a professional software engineer.
I led teams that built online banking systems for a major bank, and built infrastructure for The Weather Channel, including an all-local weather station. I know how to handle other people's data and other people's money the right way, because I did it at a level where there was no room to get it wrong.
So when you trust Studio Lifesaver with your client list, your contracts, and your payments, know that we take your business as seriously.
03 Why I built it
No tool fit the way photographers actually work. So I wrote my own.
For most of those twenty years, I switched from one CRM to another, always drowned in the admin. Getting behind in posting because I hated writing captions, and hunting for the same vendor handles over and over. Paying for a CRM, plus a social scheduler, and still doing tons of manual work, because nothing worked the same way my business did.
The thing that broke me wasn't any one task. It was that my best clients — the families I'd photographed for years — were scattered across half a dozen tools that had no idea they were the same person. No one tool could see the relationship, even though those relationships are the entire business.
So I did the thing only I was equipped to do: I built the tool from both sides of the problem at once — as the photographer who knew exactly what was broken, and as the developer who could fix it properly.
04 Proof, before promises
I ran my whole business on it for six months before I told a soul.
This isn't a beta experiment or a tech company's guess. I've run my own six-figure photography studio on Studio Lifesaver for over six months — the invoices, the sales tax, the packages, the social posts, the galleries, all of it. It's the system I actually use, every single day.
Only now, after living in it myself, am I opening it up. And I'd rather build the rest of it with photographers than for them. Founding members get a straight line to me so that this tool can be exactly what your business needs. No more changing your processes to fit the tool, but making the tool fit your business.

I'm looking for 75 founding photographers who are in it for the long haul — who keep clients for years and want a tool that finally keeps up. Your feedback won't disappear into a black hole; it goes into the next release.
